Lawyers, engineers, choreographers, veterinarians, Masters of Sports in Volleyball and Miss University 2018 – they all are so different, but also similar in one thong: they all share a love of volunteering. In ‘ordinary life’ they can be anyone. But they are volunteers, when being at the “service” of various events – no matter is connected to sports, is it a youth forum or a social project.
As the figures show, about 40 percent of Russians have tried themselves as a volunteer, and more than 10 percent consider themselves actual volunteers, and we are talking millions of people. Today it is impossible to hold any event without their participation.
At the International Youth Forum ‘Eurasia Global’, which takes place in Orenburg, there are 200 volunteers. They represent not only the Orenburg region, but also other regions of Russia. Among them are representatives of such countries as India, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Latvia and others.
The youngest of them is 18 years old, the oldest is 61 years old. This is pensioner Lyudmila Gakh from Orenburg. He has been engaged in volunteering for several years. Her volunteer portfolio includes events such as the Volga Federal District Youth Forum ‘Volga 2.0’, the International Youth Industrial Forum ‘Engineers of the Future – 2019’, the International Youth Forum ‘Eurasia – 2018’ and others. Today, she rightfully bears the honorary title of the first silver volunteer of the city of Orenburg.
‘I’m exactly the person whom my grandchildren see through stories on the social network where I have my blog. As far as I remember, I was always active. When I retired, I saved much more time. Yes, and the forces still remained. I would not want to sit on the couch and watch TV all this time. When they announced the need on silver volunteers in Orenburg, I immediately went. On the Forum I get a lot of positive emotions. How else can it be? New acquaintances with interesting people from all over the world, new experience, new knowledge. So life is filled with new colors’, – Lyudmila shares her emotions.
At the Forum, volunteers perform various functions: from meeting and registering participants and the work of the press center to technical support of the educational site and organizing the forum as a whole.
Diana Sarah from Crimea has been volunteering for five years. At ‘Eurasia Global’ she is involved in the service of the volunteer headquarters. She came to the Forum to gain experience in organizing events, in order to broadcast the acquired knowledge and skills in her region afterwards.
‘If it weren’t for such a strong and friendly team of volunteers, the international Forum would not be as great as the participants see it. The ‘Dream Team’ of volunteers gather from all over the world to have participants not only from all over Russia, but representatives from more than 100 countries. We leave the Forum only with positive emotions, inspired to work. We see the faces of the participants and understand that they are also delighted with what happened to them during these days at the Forum’, – shared Diana.
Student of the Siberian State University Anya Komarova from Khakassia is a new recruit in the volunteer movement. The first event she attended as a volunteer was the All-Russian Olympics for Pensioners in Novosibirsk, which was held less than a year ago. As Anya admits, she ‘did not know anything about her function, but was full of determination’.
And it’s even more! The Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, the International Silk Road Rally in Irkutsk, the World Ice Hockey Championship and a dozen more events that in a year allowed her to gain more than 500 hours of volunteer activity. Today, in her homeland, she plans to organize a centralized volunteer center.
“I like that at ‘Eurasia Global’ in some way there is an atmosphere of a children's camp. It's great! I’m delighted with the site itself. I am glad that I can help the organizers with my skills – I am fluent in English’, – Anya shared her emotions.
The International Youth Forum ‘Eurasia Global’ is held for the fourth time and is one of six forum sites for which, on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, federal status has been assigned.
The organizers of the forum are the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the Government of the Orenburg Region, the Federal State Budgetary Institution Resource Youth Center.
